What is Radiesse®?
Radiesse®, manufactured by Merz Aesthetics has been a FDA (Food and Drug Administration) approved synthetic dermal filler since 2006. It is known as the next generation, long-lasting wrinkle correction, and the ONLY filler that immediately restores lost volume and stimulates your own collagen production.
Radiesse® is a patented formula that is made up of calcium hydroxyapatite, a naturally occurring mineral found in human bone and teeth that does not contain animal products. This gel is implanted below the surface of the skin and instantaneously provides facial volume for a soft, natural look for moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. Radiesse® creates restoration and correction of facial fat loss (lipoatrophy) in areas such as smile lines, cheekbones (for a highlighted look), the chin and even into hand creases.
How does Radiesse® work?
Radiesse® is injected and the process of neocollagenesis ignites which is the creation of new collagen that acts as a gel carrier. This process stimulates the production of collagen in your body and supports the growth around the actual injection site acting as a scaffold under the skin. Because of the calcium-based microspheres and gel that comprise the product, the process provides the volume and lift needed to diminish the signs of aging.
When and how long will I see results from Radiesse®?
Radiesse® wrinkle filler’s unique formulation aids in collagen production extending for several months after original treatment. Results are noticeable immediately and reach maximum effect in 2-4 weeks. Radiesse® has been clinically proven to last up to 1 year or more. Is treatment with Radiesse® painful?
The treatment of Radiesse® is convenient and effective with minimal discomfort. The use of a topical numbing agent before treatment may be utilized to assist in decreasing any discomfort. You may experience some swelling, redness and bruising near the injection sites for a few days following treatment, however, applying ice and the use of makeup can help minimize these temporary side effects. Like other injectable filler treatments, Radiesse® injections do not require any downtime after treatment.
Important Safety information
To prepare for treatment with Radiesse®, avoid any medications or supplements that can prolong bleeding including Aspirin, Advil, Motrin, Ibuprofen, St. John’s Wort, Vitamin E and anti-inflammatories for approximately 10 days before and 24 hours after treatment. This will reduce the risk of bruising and bleeding at the injection site.
Certain medications and supplements should be discontinued a few days before receiving treatment with Radiesse®. It is important that you share any current medications or supplements you are taking prior to treatment.
